AUG 13: Our adventure begins! Meet at Royal Garden Inn, Salt Lake City. Welcome Dinner & Orientation
AUG 14: Travel along Utah’s scenic highways to Chinle, AZ, in the heart of the Navajo Reservation. Dinner & overnight at Holiday Inn, Garcia’s Trading Post.
AUG 15: Hike down the red rocks cliffs to our campsite at the bottom of magnificent Canyon de Chelly. Meet Winnie Henry, a tribal elder and matriarch who will be our host and guide for the next two days.
AUG 16: Day of hiking the ancient trails of Canyon de Chelly, following in the footsteps of the Anasazi. Discover spectacular rock art and ruins and learn the ways of the Navajo.
AUG 17: Hike to Spider Rock as Winnie shares the legends and stories of her childhood.
AUG 18: Bid farewell to Winnie and Canyon de Chelly. Remainder of the day and evening at leisure in Chinle.
AUG 19: After breakfast, we head for spectacular Monument Valley where we will enjoy dinner and a sunset tour of the valley before bedding down for the night in a traditional Navajo Hogan.
AUG 20: Return to Salt Lake City, with stops on the way to visit Edge of the Cedars, the site of pre-Pueblo ruins, and Sego Canyon Petroglyphs, with rock art dating back more than 8,000 years.

ADVENTURE QUOTIENT: Challenging
QUALIFICATIONS: Participants must be mentally tough and in top physical condition. You must have the stamina and the mind set to carry a backpack at high altitude over rocky trails for several days. If you are not part of our Mt. Whitney Trek Training Team, your participation in a pre-Whitney overnight backpack trip at altitude will be required to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the climb.
COST: $195.00 – Due upon sign-up – payable by check to Enchanting Events.
INCLUDES: Orientation meeting; pre-trip overnight backpacking trip; Mt. Whitney permit fee; round-trip transportation from Orange County; trip planning, organization & leadership.
NOT INCLUDED: Lodging in Lone Pine; restaurant meals. All food and gear to be provided by individual hikers, although arrangements can be made to share tents, water filters, stoves and bear canisters.
